Great AgVenture

The CattleWomen dedicate time every year for the Great AgVenture events at the Paso Robles Event Center in Paso Robles, CA as well as the Arroyo Grand High School in Arroyo Grande, CA. Students learn from agricultural experts in our community. Bringing a new way to educate youth through community outreach. Members are asked to join in the fun by volunteering at each event. It's a great way to give back and interact with kids, plus learn something new. If you have a 4th grader, be sure to join in the fun at the Great AgVenture.

AgVenture Day 2024 Paso Robles Event Center

This year’s Ag. Venture held on October 8th was once again a great success. Some of our talented CattleWomen volunteered to share their knowledge at a few of the many stations around the fairgrounds that hosted 4th graders from schools around North county. Our very own San Luis Obispo County Agricultural Education Committee is responsible for this incredible day when students go to many different stations to learn about the agriculture and ranching sector in our county. The SLO CattleWomen featured 3 different booths. Byroducts, Butter Babes and Owl Pellet education. Our Butter Babes: Susan Jones, Shan McCornack, Melody Fountain and Kathryn McGinnis taught students how to make butter and sample their recipes. Suze Evenson presented the Owl Pellet booth where she taught students the variety of ways that owls support our environment as they diseccted the pellets and learned how owls decrease the population of rodents and insects that can spread disease and reduce damage to crops. Finally, Nicole Nicholson and Tracy Nicholson educated students on the benefits of beef byproducts. They were first introduced to, “what is a beef byproduct?’ and then played an interactive game where each class was divided into groups and had a bowl of byproducts on their table. A riddle was read to them with the theme of Halloween and the last word of the riddle rhymed with a byproduct. They then held up the byproduct. They also did a byproduct word puzzle and each student received a gummy candy (byproduct of beef), and a pencil that said BEEF. Thank you to the Agriculture Committee for giving us this wonderful opportunity to educate our youth on the benefits of beef and agriculture!

AgVenture Day 2024 Arroyo Grande High School

The Ag. Venture held at Arroyo Grande High School on Friday May 10th was a huge success. Our Ag. in the Classroom Chair Ashley Crabtree and her friend Hannah Silva taught the students about beef byproducts. They are seen here in front of the poster that helped students learn about the many byproducts we use everyday from beef. Students were also divided in groups of 5 rotations with over 20 students in each group. For 20 minutes each rotation was presented with a fun activity where they were given bowls of byproducts. They were asked to hold up the corresponding byproduct that rhymes with riddles. They all had so much fun and learned the vital importance of beef in our everyday life. Also photographed are the "Butter Babes" , Pat Abel, Connie Willems and Kathryn McGinnis. These CattleWomen taught students how to make butter and were given a sample to try! Nice work by everyone.
